My final images for the Light Age Competition which i couldn't attend officially because i haven't read carefully the requirements of creating a thread and posting wips each week.*facepalm*
If any of the Artstation competition organizers are reading this i have some feedback that you might want to implement in future
competitions:
1. 10 characters in a month seems a bit excessive. it reminded me of those emails that give you 500 illustrations to do for 100 dollars.
And because of this big number i feel i had to compromise a lot the quality and the selection of concepts which i am pretty sure other people did too. Sure this is a challenge and it should be hard and reveal certain traits from the participants but i really think its damaging to the way artists are viewed in the industry, overworked and not compensated accordingly to the effort its put in.
2. the requirement of a final image with all the characters with a maximum width or height of 1920 , while the same size is required for all
the other individual images its not really convenient to show a final lineup with some good resolution to emphasize the designs well. it just becomes a crappy pixelated mess
3. Posting wips for the designs is a nice idea to show people how images are created but takes time which you take from time that could be used to create art (again going back to the number 10). also it opens up room for conversation which also will take time from the challenger. i just feel the stress level you put with these challenges on people is not taken into consideration. i am more than happy to share wips and talk about them but i feel its better if that happens after the challenge somehow.. being alone in a challenge without any feedback is good i think and makes the community more diverse. Feedback during something like this might kill some great ideas that the artist might have because they get feedback and direction from various individuals.
These are my opinions and i hope you can see my logic when i make these statements. Thank you for the time and effort that everyone puts in creating them and looking forward to the next ones.
Good luck to everyone that managed to finish and happy holidays to everyone!
